Cybersecurity Awareness Month

October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month!

Join the Office of Information Security as we celebrate throughout the month with awareness videos, online and in-person presentations, training sessions, contests, and info booths on securing personal and UW data and devices

We’ve planned a variety of in-person and virtual events, including opportunities to participate in awareness contests and win prizes.

Kick-off

On Tuesday, October 10th, join us in Odegaard 220 any time between 12:30 and 2:30 p.m.
(This event was postponed from Wednesday, October 4.)

Stop by to learn about how to secure UW data, devices, and your own personal accounts, credentials, and home devices. There will be information stations focused on 6 key themes and you’ll learn about events, training, and awareness contests planned throughout the month. Spin the wheel for OIS-branded prizes and enjoy coffee and refreshments.

The national themes for Cybersecurity Awareness Month are:

  • Use multi-factor authentication (MFA)
  • Make passwords safe
  • Keep software updated and patched
  • Recognize and report phishing and scams

And we have added two more that are important at UW:

  • Back up data and devices
  • Dispose of data and devices securely
