Public vs. private: WFH

Our public vs. private series was rudely interrupted the past few weeks by news about multiple vulnerabilities in Windows Print Spooler (as of this writing, the safest mitigation is still to keep Print Spooler disabled until Microsoft releases a patch).

But we’re back on track this week with some public vs. private guidance for working from home. Review the following resources on our website and IT Connect to help secure your data and information and keep it from prying eyes:

1. Use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) such as Husky OnNet
Husky OnNet provides an encrypted connection to the UW from remote locations, such as from home, a coffee shop, or at the airport. An encrypted connection provides greater security when you use your UW NetID password and other passwords to access UW’s networks.

2. Get to know your home router

3. Secure your laptop
Review our Securing Laptops Risk Advisory for best practices for securing UW data on laptops.

4. Consider the risks of IoT devices
See Guidance for Consumer IoT Devices for more information.

Stay tuned for more in our public vs. private series!
